The prank tweets on the @foxnewspolitics account began just after 2 a.m., and — like any proper news account — kept updating with breathless posts on President Obama’s supposed condition. The tweets, six in total, included gory (and entirely bogus) details: two shots at an Iowa restaurant, hitting the president in the pelvis and neck, etc.

The Secret Service said it is launching an investigation, given the graphic and serious contents of the prank tweets. “We are investigating and will be conducting the appropriate follow-up,” said spokesman George Ogilvie.

Scholars Authenticate Long-Lost Painting By Leonardo da Vinci [ARTnews]

A painting by Leonardo da Vinci that was lost for centuries has been authenticated by distinguished scholars in the United States and Europe and will be exhibited at London’s National Gallery as part of a Leonardo show that opens November 9, ARTnews has learned.

The painting, Salvator Mundi, or “Savior of the World,” depicts Christ with his right hand raised in blessing and his left hand holding a globe. It is painted in oil on a wood panel and measures 26 by 18 1/2 inches in size.

“It’s up there with any artistic discovery of the last 100 years,” said one scholar.

Helmet Could Have Saved Motorcyclist Who Died On Ride Protesting Helmet Law – [Huff Post]

Police say a motorcyclist participating in a protest ride against helmet laws in upstate New York died after he flipped over the bike’s handlebars and hit his head on the pavement.

The accident happened Saturday afternoon in the town of Onondaga, in central New York near Syracuse.
