Clay Interactive produced a literal Periodic Table of Swearing (video) for Modern Toss.

It was built in our Hoxton Street studio during our summer holidays. It’s constructed from over 100 buttons, CNC’ed and laser cut MDF, direct to media printing, over 100 meters of cabling, over 300 soldered joints and a whole lot of swearing!

The 6 Most Mind-Blowing Things Ever Discovered in Space – [Cracked]

40 Signs The World Is Definitely Going To End On Friday – [BuzzFeed]

Hundreds Of Spanish Babies “Stolen From Clinics And Sold For Adoption”[Guardian]

Hundreds of Spanish babies were stolen from their parents by a secret network of doctors and nurses and sold for adoption, according to a petition filed in Madrid.

The families of 261 babies who disappeared in Spanish hospitals over five decades called on the attorney general to open an investigation into the scandal, after presenting evidence from former employees at maternity clinics and parents who admitted illegally adopting babies.

Did Our Ancestors Speak Like Yoda? – [The Week]

Did our ancestors order their words in the seemingly backwards manner associated with the Star Wars character Yoda? Yes, at least that’s what new linguistics findings published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Researchare suggesting. More accurately, researchers think that all human languages descended from a single form — which probably had the speech patterns of a certain green Star Wars master — that was spoken in East Africa 50,000 years ago.

A Long/Interesting Read: All The Single Ladies[The Atlantic]

Recent years have seen an explosion of male joblessness and a steep decline in men’s life prospects that have disrupted the “romantic market” in ways that narrow a marriage-minded woman’s options: increasingly, her choice is between deadbeats (whose numbers are rising) and playboys (whose power is growing). But this strange state of affairs also presents an opportunity: as the economy evolves, it’s time to embrace new ideas about romance and family—and to acknowledge the end of “traditional” marriage as society’s highest ideal.

Occupy Wall Street: How It Started - [Reuters] (via)

It all started innocuously enough with a July 13 blog post urging people to #OccupyWallStreet, as though such a thing (Twitter hashtag and all) were possible.

It turns out, with enough momentum and a keen sense of how to use social media, it actually is.

The Occupy movement, decentralized and leaderless, has mobilized thousands of people around the world almost exclusively via the Internet. To a large degree through Twitter, and also with platforms like Facebook and Meetup, crowds have connected and gathered.

As with any movement, a spark is needed to start word spreading. SocialFlow, a social media marketing company, did an analysis for Reuters of the history of the Occupy hashtag on Twitter and the ways it spread and took root.
