Zynga Worth $8.9 Billion After IPO – [The Atlantic Wire]

Zynga CEO Mark Pincus is doing this IPO thing his way after getting the biggest public offering since Google. Last night, the gaming company confirmed it succeeded in more than achieving its $1 billion dollar goal. When the Farmville makers went on the road earlier this week, they had sought to sell 100 million shares at $8.50 and $10, for around a maximum $7 billion valuation. This morning’s offering, after selling more than 100 million shares at $10 per share, will value the company at $8.9 million.

Banksy: Cardinal Sin

by Endswell 1 month, 13 days ago View Comments

Banksy’s been busy. Along with dropping some new pieces all over London, the Bristol Bomber has placed his “Cardinal Sin” sculpture in the Walker Art Gallery in Liverpool.

“I love everything about the Walker Gallery—the Old Masters, the contemporary art, the rude girl in the cafe. And when I found out Mr Walker built it with beer money it became my favourite gallery. The statue? I guess you could call it a Christmas present. At this time of year it’s easy to forget the true meaning of Christianity—the lies, the corruption, the abuse.”

The piece serves as commentary for the numerous child abuse scandals associated with the church. Banksy noted in a statement, “I’m never sure who deserves to be put on a pedestal or crushed under one.”

After being “dark launched” in July, Facebook has officially launched their social archaeology tool, Timeline, which displays the user’s updates, photos, friends, and any other actions they’ve done since becoming a member of the social network in a chronological manner. Gizmodo’s Sam Biddle seems to be a fan, while The Atlantic’s Rebecca Greenfield has some concerns. Here’s a quick rundown of what you need to know, in case watching a 1 1/2-minute video is too much for you.

U.S. War in Iraq Declared Officially Over – [NY Times]

The United States military officially declared an end to its mission in Iraq on Thursday even as violence continues to plague the country and the Muslim world remains distrustful of American power.

In a fortified concrete courtyard at the airport in Baghdad, Defense Secretary Leon E. Panetta thanked the more than one million American service members who have served in Iraq for “the remarkable progress” made over the past nine years but acknowledged the severe challenges that face the struggling democracy.

Source Reveals Facebook Is Swimming In Cash[Gawker]

A well-placed mole has forwarded us the Silicon Valley equivalent of hard-core pornography: an explicit look at Facebook’s finances. They’re even more staggering than we expected. A gusher of profits has left the social network with a cash hoard to rival established companies like 3M, eBay and Yahoo.
