While I’m the first to defend video games as art, despite being a fan of Roger Ebert, I’m not sure what makes this game “art”. There’s violence, it’s very pretty, but art? Maybe, in the same sense as something like The Transporter. But I think RE himself would argue more in favor of the great works of Pixar, Edward Scissorhands or Rushmore being “art”, while the Jason Statham vehicles are just pretending.
I think the construct or execution of anything can be considered art because it is the expression of an emotion or idea through work… the pieces of a chess board or the act of playing a game well can undeniably be considered art but at the same time you couldn’t really consider the “game of chess” art because it is really just a set of rules not an expression itself.
