As of today, I’ve spent the last 3 years browsing the web and serving up the best I felt it had to offer with the goal of entertaining you for 5-minutes on a daily basis. I sincerely hope I’ve succeeded with at least a few of you in this endeavor. There are a lot of people that helped make this possible and I will write up a mushy “thank you” post as soon as I’m back in San Diego (hopefully in conjunction with the release of our new mixtape, High & Tight). At a minimum, I’d like to thank those of you that have been reading this site since its modest inception.

In the meantime, I will be in Maui for the next week so The High Definite will be in vacation mode. Posts will be light but there will be posts. I will be sending updates on HighDef’s Twitter account when new posts are available, so if you’re not following that, then you’re a step behind other people that make better choices than you. I will also be posting random shit from the trip on that account.

I can’t imagine a better group of readers. Thank you for your continued support.

I don’t usually do this, but sometimes a video just needs to be made. Recently, videos of Samuel L. Jackson and Werner Herzog reading “Go The Fuck To Sleep” have been making their rounds, and they’re just as fantastic as you’d expect them to be. However, considering the number of people out there that do Christopher Walken impressions, I’m a little surprised and disappointed that not a single Christopher Walken parody has made its way online yet.

Issue With The Mobile App & How To Fix It:

First, if you’ve downloaded The High Definite’s mobile app through the App Store or the Android Market, you’re awesome, and I can’t thank you enough for doing so.  I’ve gotten some e-mails from people saying the app wasn’t updating, and this is due to some server issues we had during the transition.  Each of those e-mails were resolved by the individual doing a reinstall or updating to the newest version.  So, if you have the app and are having the same problem, that should fix it.  If it doesn’t, e-mail me directly at endswell AT thehighdefinite DOT com and I will personally see to it that we fix whatever problems you’re having.

Second, my goal is to provide a product that you will find useful and enjoy (both on the mobile apps and the site in general), so if you have any feedback whatsoever (good or bad), please e-mail me at the same address and I will do what I can to make those changes.

The High Definite’s Facebook page and Twitter account aren’t just RSS feeds of the site. I update the Facebook page with a whole slew of images that I don’t post on the site, and the Twitter account is a mixed bag of randomness, so if you feel so inclined, go check them out.

As you may or may not know, I’ve been helping run the show over at The High Definite’s big brother site, NextRound.net for the past year or so.  Over the weekend, we made the leap to combine the two sites and offically made The High Definite part of the NextRound family as one of the new network’s flagship sites.

So what does this mean for you?

Besides the much-needed facelift and solid technical structure, the site itself should pretty much stay the same.  We’ve done our best to keep the colors and layout the same to avoid a Digg or Gawker-esque backlash.  The content will be consistent with what you have grown to expect from this site, and the more guy-oriented content you love from NextRound is now only a click away.

So if you have a moment, get familiar with our Twitter and Facebook pages (available in the super easy links on the top right of the page).  I’ll also start manning the shared Tumblr site sometime this week so if you don’t follow us on there, now would be a pretty good time to start.

Due to some work being done in the background to move the site onto new servers (which is related to some pretty exciting news), I will be doing all of today’s posts on The High Definite’s Twitter and Facebook accounts.

We’re up against some stiff competition in the Sweet Sixteen round of Captain Morgan’s Bracketmaster Challenge.  If Tiffany makes the Elite Eight we get to go to Vegas next weekend on Captain Morgan’s dime so Tiffany can compete to become The Ultimate Morganette.

I’m extremely (and almost sexually) pleased to present The High Definite’s mobile application.  My buddy Hunter and his team over at Barefoot Solutions have been working with me for the past couple of months on how to get this little site of mine optimized for the 13% of you across the globe that access it on mobile phones. After dealing with the App Store’s increasingly rigid requirements for some time, we finally appeased some guy in Cupertino enough that we got approval.

When we came to the pay vs. ads crossroad, we decided the one time cost of a buck would be better than plaguing the app with ads to pay for development costs.  In return for your hard-earned dollar, I promise to do my best to fill it with an almost continuous stream of entertaining content.

As an added bonus, we have pre-released the next mixtape, High Command, exclusively on the app for your streaming pleasure.  It’s good.  If you don’t believe me, the tracklist is after the jump.  You can stream the rest of the mixtapes through the app as well.  (Please make sure your data plan can support it before streaming them.)

So, if you anticipate that at some point in the future you will:

a) be stuck in some sort of awkward social situation

Thanks for your donations to last month’s charity (New Eyes For The Needy).  Despite the short amount of time to collect donations, we still managed to scrape together a decent donation.  This month I’m throwing the GAS Project coffer at the relief & recovery efforts in Chile.  From AmeriCares:

Currently, there are over 700 confirmed deaths and this number is expected to rise. Chile’s President Michelle Bachelethas declared a state of emergency. Search and rescue are underway to locate Chilean earthquake survivors.

Electricity and basic services are damaged, regional hospitals had suffered damage and some were evacuated.  A major bridge connecting north-south of Chile reportedly damaged and inoperable now.

To help speed aid to survivors, AmeriCares is also working with our active partners in the region—Peru, Ecuador, Bolivia and Colombia—to coordinate our response.

Since 1989, AmeriCares has delivered over $16 million in medical and humanitarian donations to Chile. For over 25 years, AmeriCares has responded with emergency relief and lifesaving aid to catastrophic disasters around the world that have affected millions of families: from Hurricane Katrina in the U.S., the Tsunami in Southeast Asia, to deadly cholera outbreaks in Zimbabwe, to the January earthquake in Haiti – and now to the earthquake in Chile.

Each month, amidst all the jackassery and bullshit I post on this blog, I get the pleasure of selecting a charity that this site donates to thanks to the generous contributions of its readers.  This month’s charity will be New Eyes For The Needy, an organization that uses donated glasses to provide a less fortunate person with the gift of corrected vision.  I’ve used glasses and contacts since 1st grade, so I definitely know what it feels like to not be able to see shit, and it sucks…balls.  The group’s vision, from their website:

Our mission is focused:  to improve the vision of poor children and adults by 1) purchasing new eyeglasses in the United states and 2) recycling donated glass for distribution in developing nations worldwide.

For about $60, New Eyes for the Needy can improve a person’s life. Each new pair of glasses purchased by New Eyes helps an American child succeed in school, an adult secure a job, or a senior citizen read medicine labels. Although I loved hating on Twitter in the past, I love views more…and I think I’ve proven I will whore myself out shamelessly and to no end to acquire more of them (Exhibit A).  So, I made a Twitter account for HighDef.

I want to take a minute to sincerely thank all that donated to this month’s coffer. As a result, this month’s GAS Project came to $968.86 which isn’t huge, but it’s definitely 3-4 times larger than the normal GAS Project donations, so that’s awesome.

I had a hard time coming up with this month’s charity, but after the devastating news in Haiti due to yesterday’s quake, this month’s charity became pretty fucking obvious.

If you don’t know, Haiti was hit with the worst earthquake in over 200 years yesterday.  The 7.0 quake was followed by multiple aftershocks that were each over 5.0 on the Richter Scale.  Millions have been displaced and thousands are feared dead or still trapped  by the rubble.

Wyclef Jean started the Yele Haiti Foundation in 2005 to provide scholarships to thousands of kids after Hurricane Jeanne.  He is directing the foundation’s entire efforts towards aid and recovery of the shattered nation. The picture above is from Boston’s Big Picture, which is doing a continually updated photo essay on the quake.

I’m upping my monthly contribution of $50 to all my ad revenue from the site this month. I really want to give as much as this site can muster to this cause, so if just being a part of High Definite’s contribution isn’t enough, me and the good people over at Texts From Last Night and Gotham Books are also giving away a copy of the new Texts From Last Night book coming out January 26th to a randomly selected donator this month.

The Give A Shit Charity Project was started in June of this year in an effort to use this blog to contribute something useful to the world.  The premise was a lot of people making small donations could add up to a sizable donation, allowing people that can’t write four to six figure checks to support an important cause.

Since its inception, hundreds of you have donated anywhere from 25 cents to 50 dollars to support the various charities each month. The total amount of donations this year (including the current total in this month’s coffer) is $1198.91.  Although this isn’t a huge number, it’s a lot larger than I thought it would be in the first year.

I wanted to take a minute to thank each and every one of you that gave your time and money to support this project.  This will be the last time I panhandle for donations this year, and my donation to this month’s charity, the My Stuff Bags Foundation, will go out on Christmas eve.  If you feel so inclined to help these kids out throw some loot into the coffer.  Happy Holidays and thanks again.

Thanks to everyone that donated last month.  Even though its the same 50-60 of you each month, I’m extremely grateful for your generosity and support of the one positive thing this blog pumps out each month.  This month’s charity is the My Stuff Bags Foundation, supporting the kids that get shoved off into foster homes with nothing but the clothes on their back.  Although it’s a relatively new charity (founded in 1998), its cause is still a very noble one and deserves our support.

Over 300,000 abused, abandoned, and neglected children across America are removed from dangerous home environments each year. They often arrive at crisis centers and foster homes with few, if any, personal belongings. The My Stuff Bags Foundation seeks to give these children comfort and hope by providing them with a My Stuff Bag full of things they need to help them settle in their new environments, such as clothes, toys, toiletries, stuffed animals, and a security blanket.

My Stuff Bags has provided bags to more than 320,000 children in 49 states since it began in 1998. There goal is to have a bag for every child removed from his or her home.

Tomorrow marks my 26th year of life, and as a result, I have emptied the coffer for the GAS Project, made the $186.70 donation collected this month for the Women For Afghan Women charity, and will be using all donations made in the next 24 hours for my weekend debauchery.  The donations will most likely be used for:

• drugs and/or alcohol
• ladies of the night
• explosives of some sort
• bail money (worst case scenario)
