There are currently 9,999 posts in this site’s archives that I’ve found interesting or entertaining over the past 4 years. Hopefully you’ve enjoyed at least one of them. While I continue my tireless search to find 9,999 more, I’m going to take a moment and plug some shit after the jump.

I’d like to sincerely thank you for reading and spreading the word, and hope you continue to do so.

Unbaby.me Makes Facebook Tolerable Again

by 2 years, 10 months ago 2 Responses

Chances are, if you’re in your mid-to-late twenties, your Facebook Newsfeed is probably starting to look like the picture frame section at Target, what with all the baby, engagement, and wedding photos people seem to have no problem sharing with overwhelming ferocity.

Unbaby.me has started the fight against this glamorized and gluttonous oversharing of marital and familial bliss by replacing baby photos from your Newsfeed “with awesome stuff.”

By the way, our Facebook page is all awesome stuff, all the time.

Site News/Del Mar Opening Day

by 2 years, 11 months ago 2 Responses

A quick heads up. In an effort to make this site’s social media obligations halfway entertaining (and not a couple of streaming link whores for the site), I’ve moved the humorous images usually associated with the Coffee Break link dumps to the Facebook page and I’ve moved the articles over to the Twitter account. Mosey over to either if you feel so inclined.

Done for the day. Time for some big ass hats.

At Least Four Dead as Too Many Thrill-Seekers Try to Summit Everest at Once - [Gawker]

At least four people have perished near the peak of Mount Everest this weekend, and the body count may yet rise according to unconfirmed reports from the site.

The four climbers — a German doctor, a Nepal-born Canadian citizen, a South Korean mountaineer, and a Chinese climber — died as a result of exhaustion and high-altitude sickness on their way down from the summit.

Space X Launches The First Commercial Rocket Into Space - [Wired]

The second time’s the charm for SpaceX. This morning at 3:44 a.m. EDT the company’s Falcon 9 rocket lifted off of Launch Complex 40 at Cape Canaveral. After a faulty valve led to an aborted launch on Saturday, today’s successful flight marks the third of the Falcon 9 rocket, the second flight of the Dragon capsule, and the first flight for a commercial spacecraft bound for the International Space Station (ISS).

After berthing with the ISS, astronauts and cosmonauts on board will spend several days unloading the more than 1,000 pounds of cargo and experiments on board the Dragon. They will then load the Dragon with more than 1,300 pounds of cargo to be returned to earth. Dragon is expected to spend about a week on station, returning with a splash down in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of California on May 31.

SAP Exec Arrested in LEGO-Thieving Bar-Code Scam - [Gizmodo]

Ah, power. You give a person too much and they will abuse it. Such is the case with Thomas Langenbach, a 47-year-old VP at Palo Alto-based software company SAP Labs, who has been arrested for the nerdiest crime in recent memory. His abuse of power: computer skill-based.

It is reported that Langenbach had been using his computer savvy to reproduce bar code stickers, the kind Target uses to price their items, which he placed over the original bar codes so he could purchase LEGO at a lower cost.

The multimillionaire software exec sold the LEGO sets on eBay, under the username TomsBrickYard. (For whatever it’s worth, he is a top-rated seller with excellent feedback.) His seller page shows 1,475 completed sales in all, with the most recent feedback left today and the earliest dating back to May 1, 2011.
